The Dam

Into a room I walk.

I meet a man of ordinary means, but

extraordinary power.

Grace be his name.

Our eyes embrace

and all at once I am faced

with a river so full, I fear

the dam will break.

I would look.

And look again.

This river, it bends.

Oh, what walls we draw upon ourselves

to house our souls within.

Why he, or I, or we

cannot be

our past will now foretell.

Without water

the flower will surely die.

So simple, yet

So not.
